There are many other crystals that can be damaged by different techniques and it is best to check beforehand
if you are not sure.
Brown Rice
Cover your crystals in brown rice for 12 hours, the rice will cleanse your crystals by soaking up any negativity they hold. Throw away the rice after cleansing, as you do not wish to eat rice filled with negativity.
Flower Petals
Cover your crystals in flower petals. Use what colour of flower petals you feel would be suitable such as pink rose petals for rose quartz, Orange marigolds for orange calcite, etc. The petals can be composted after use, as any negativity in the petals the earth will recycle into positive energy.
Sunlight
You can cleanse your crystals by placing in direct sunlight. The crystals can be placed outside (in safe areas) or on a windowsill for 8 hours. This will cleanse and charge your crystals. Note; Sunlight may damage some crystals because of the strong sunlight rays, especially brightly coloured crystals. Also be aware of any possibility of rain during this time that may also damage certain crystals.
Moonlight
As with sunlight, the moon can also cleanse crystals. We would recommend this particularly during a full moon as the moons energy is enhanced.Place in direct moonlight overnight. Again be aware of possibility of rain if placing outside. But again a windowsill is quite suitable.This will cleanse and charge your crystals.
Earth
Crystals came from the earth, this is where they were created. By placing them back into the earth for 24 hours is like returning them home for a holiday to rest and regain their strength. We would not recommend this for any highly prised possessions, as there are things in the soil that may scratch and mark your crystals. Also crystals that do not like water may be affected by the water content in the earth you place them.If you decide to use this technique remember to place a marker when you buried them so as not to lose them.This will cleanse and charge your crystals.
Flowing Natural Water
Place your crystals in a gentle flowing stream. Make sure you place your crystals in a strong enough bag so that it does not break, but with enough room for the water to freely flow around the crystals. You must also make sure that you can secure the bag down safe enough to make sure
it doesn’t float away. Leave in a stream for about 8 hours. The clean energised water will cleanse and charge your crystals.Note, the crystals rubbing together may damage your crystals. Running water
Hold your crystal under a running tap and close your eyes. In your minds eye, imaging all the water washing away all negativity on the crystal. When you feel a slight change in the crystal, this may be the pulsation, tingling, etc and you feel it is cleansed. Place on a towel and allow to dry naturally. Intent
Hold your crystal in your hands and imagine a golden light from above coming down and filling the crystal. Cleansing any negativity. Allow the crystal to glow with the light. When you feel the vibration change in the crystal it will be fully cleansed.Trusting your own intuition and what you are feeling to begin with is quite difficult for some. But over time, you will become more confident with this.We all make mistakes to begin with, it is only if we don’t learn by then that they are truly mistakes. Sound
Certain sounds can be used to cleanse crystals. All crystals love sound.Bu using a tuning fork, singing bowl or Tibetan cymbals you can cleanse your crystals. Use your choice of sound by playing the sound over and around your crystal. This is a useful technique for crystals that are too large to handle easily.Some people will place a crystal inside a singing bowl, but this can sometimes damage a crystal due to the vibration inside the bowl. If you prefer to do this, only place one crystal inside the bowl at a time. 
Candle flameGently throw your crystals through the flame of a candle about 2 – 3 times will cleanse any negativity from your crystals by the pure fire. Be careful with the crystals and ensure a soft landing at the other side. Also be aware that fire can cause come crystals damage. Incense/smudging
Pass your crystal through the smoke of an incense stick or smudge several times. Certain ones such as frankincense, cedar, thyme, and rosemary are well known for their cleansing abilities. Coloured light for charging crystals only
Take a piece of coloured cellophane and secure around a glass, you may prefer to paint the outside of a glass with glass paints if you decide to use this technique regularly.Place your crystals inside the glass for 12 hours with a source of light shining through. Use appropriate colours for your crystals such as pink for rose quartz, purple for amethyst, etc.You can also use this technique if you own a light box that you place your crystals on. Just use coloured cellophane and place the crystal on top or a coloured glass. When using a light box that changes colour, try and find one that uses all the colours of the rainbow as well as a setting for white light. As the rainbow light is very useful for such crystals as quartz, moonstone, etc. Rain
Any crystals that will not be damaged by water can be safely placed outside in the rain. For tumblestones, we would advise you place them in an item such as a sieve the will allow the water to run through the crystals taking any negativity back to the earth. The positive energy from fresh falling rain will cleanse and charge your crystals Electrical storm
This is a very affective technique. Quartz in particular favour this. Place your crystal outside during a thunder and lightening storm. The lightening is due to electricity in the air and will cleanse any negativity and charge crystals. But make sure that you do not place any crystals outside that do not like water. Also be sure that you place them somewhere safe.

Reiki
If you are attuned to Reiki you can use it to cleanse and charge your crystals. This can be done by placing the crystals in your hands or holding your hands over the crystal and asking the Reiki to flow to cleanse and charge the crystal.This is also a handy technique for any large, heavy or awkward crystals that need to be cleansed and charged.
Citrine
Citrine is one of very few that do not need cleansing, as citrine will not hold any negativity, but in turn change it to positive energy. You can cleanse and charge your crystals, by placing them in or on a crystal bed/geode for 12 hours. Citrine is also a useful crystal to have as a citrine tumble stone among any crystals that you carry around with you, as it will keep them cleansed.
Salt
We mention last salt as it is not one we would personally recommend for anyone new to crystals, as salt can damage many different crystals whether it is dry salt or salt water. But we mention it here for your information. Members of the Quartz family are safe with salt, but some others such as malachite, pyrite, selenite and opals are not. But if you are unsure, please check first.
Salt Water
Place 1 teaspoon of sea salt to 1 pint of water and allow the salt to dissolve. Place your crystal inside the water and leave overnight. Make sure you rinse all traces of salt away from the crystal and allow the crystal to dry naturally. Dry Salt
Bury your crystal in a bowl of natural sea salt for 8 hours. Make sure you brush away all remains of salt after. |
